ARLINGTON — Terrace Park is once again a hot spot for summer fun for the whole family through the month of July.
City of Arlington Recreation Coordinator Sarah Higgins explained that this year’s events and activities in the park will be a mix of new attractions and familiar favorites.
“Karaoke Nights was something that we started last year,” Higgins said. “It was a lot of fun for folks who wanted to sing in a non-threatening environment,” she laughed.
By contrast, the Zumba Night is an entirely new feature this year.
“Our boot camp instructor is leading that one, although she won’t be doing it with her boot camp personality,” Higgins laughed.
Higgins expressed just as much enthusiasm for this year’s series of outdoor movies, as well as the “Shakespeare in the Park” performance at the end of the month.
“Last Leaf Productions has really good actors,” Higgins said. “And we’ve got a really good sound system, plus a new movie screen and newer movies. It’s old-fashioned family fun for people who can stay out past 9 p.m.,” she laughed.
The Terrace Park Amphitheater is located at 809 Fifth St. in Arlington, and audience members are advised to bring a chair or blanket.
The outdoor movies take place Thursdays after dark, at approximately 9 p.m., with the Kiwanis Club of Arlington providing popcorn and water, and the following 2010 movies being shown:
- July 14: Yogi Bear (cancelled due to weather)
- July 21: Megamind
- July 28: The Karate Kid
Thursday nights at Terrace Park also mean Karaoke Nights on July 14 and 28 starting at 7 p.m., and Zumba Night on July 21 from 7:30-8:30 p.m., sponsored by the city of Arlington.
The city of Arlington and the Friends of the Arlington Library are jointly sponsoring the Shakespeare in the Park performance of “The Merchant of Venice” on July 30 at 6 p.m.
