Brief Background on the Patriot Golden Cards
Former President Trump’s campaign team unveiled the Patriot Golden Cards to his supporters in an email blast in late 2021. Designed to resemble credit cards, the team unveiled four designs and noted that supporters could easily carry them in their wallets.
Released as part of its latest fundraising round, the Trump 2024 campaign noted that people could easily be fooled to believe that they were credit cards. The campaign started by sending out two emails seeking input from its supporters on its design.
In one email, the campaign stated, ‘Patriots will carry the card you select all around the Country.’ It added, ‘They will be a sign of your dedicated support to our movement to SAVE AMERICA, and I’m putting my full trust in you.’
At the time, the campaign didn’t state what buying the card would entitle a supporter to or even whether it had any benefits. It’s only after its release that it clarified that the card was purely for memorabilia purposes.
Trump Campaign Merchandise
The email further explained, ‘We recently met with the former President in his Florida office and showed him four designs.’ It went on to read:
‘Originally, we were planning on releasing just one design, but when President Trump saw the cards on his desk, he said, ‘These are BEAUTIFUL. We should let the American People decide – they ALWAYS know best!’
The release of the Trump Gold Card is part of an ongoing effort meant to release as much Trump campaign merchandise as possible. Apart from the cards, the campaign has also used signed photos of the former president to try and raise cash for his 2024 campaign.
Each signed photograph released by the PAC has sold for $45. Trump has spent the last few months teasing a potential presidential run in 2024. He has begun holding rallies in different parts of the country to galvanize support for all his preferred contenders.
Though he has been using these rallies to help bolster their support in local races, many political observers have noted that President Trump has remained the sole focus. It’s not uncommon to hear him speaking about his successes and the failures of his successor.
By 2021, political groups linked to the former president had raised over $100 million. Trump has also raised $31 million by the end of 2020 from his donors. He had claimed that he needed the money to help him challenge the presidential election results.
Of this amount, only $8.6 million was used in challenging the results, causing many to speculate that he was saving the money to galvanize support for his preferred candidates. Many of these candidates are running in primary races this year.
