MARYSVILLE In late December, Allstate Insurance agent Kristine Carter earned an Agency Hands in the Community Award recognizing the time she spends volunteering with the non-profit Small Paws Rescue, Inc.
An Arlington resident, Carter is an agent for the Dow Insurance Agency in Marysville.
Headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., Small Paws specializes in rescuing Bichons and various mixes of Bichons. Carters award includes a $500 donation to the group from Allstate.
Working with a team leader in Spokane, Carter and other Small Paws volunteers rescue Bichons from shelters and puppy mills. Carters home has served as a foster home for over 30 dogs in the last two years. Carter said she got involved in the group because Bichons have, in her opinion, great personalities and, just as importantly, dont shed and are hypoallergenic.
I can love my dog, Carter said, and not have a sneezing fit.
