ARLINGTON — The City Council recently approved layoff agreements with three more city employees, bringing the total number of city staff being let go to 11.

The most recent city positions being eliminated include police services supervisor Nancy Lingel, city senior engineer Kelli Hale and senior city planner Yvonne Page.

City of Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said the layoffs, combined with eight city employees who accepted voluntary layoffs last month, will save the city approximately $1.1 million.

The city is currently facing a $1.8 million shortfall in its 2010 budget.

“We believe it’s the last round of cuts,” Banfield said. “We’re taking a balanced budget to the Council on Monday (Nov. 9), but the power ultimately lies with the Council.”

Budget discussions from the Council work session were not available at publication.

Lingel has worked with the Arlington Police Department since 1990. Her duties included managing and processing police records and greeting customers.

Hale had been with the city since 2007, and will continue to contract with the city on a part-time basis until Jan. 31, 2010.
