ARLINGTON — Arlington had nine student athletes sign their letters of intent to play sports at the college level Feb. 3.
The signees: Donovan Sellgren to play football at Chadron College in Nebraska; Olivia Larson to play soccer at Western Washington University; Kat Sanchez to play soccer at Northwest University; Danielle Baker and Kierra Williamson to play soccer at Everett Community College; Chandler Bishop to play softball at Western Oregon University; Alyssa Crain signed to play volleyball at Bellevue College; Shyne McKay signed to play softball at Central Washington University; and Shane Kerschner signed to play football at the University of Saint Mary in Kansas.
Bishop signed for Western Oregon because of its “beautiful campus” and it’s “close-knit feel,” similar to her town of Arlington. She feels ready to play college-level softball.
“[Arlington Coach] Dang Eng really prepared us for softball, getting everyone fundamentally sound through the high school experience,” she said.
Her fondest memory was winning state as a freshman. She plans to study exercise science.
Baker agreed to play for EvCC because it’s close to home. She will finish her prerequisites for medical school before going on to a university. She said she should be fine to play soccer there as well.
“Our team did really well this year, so it won’t be that huge of a change,” Baker said.
Also going the community college route is Crane, who will attend Bellevue to get started on her education major. She’s set to play volleyball.
“Our new coach, Whitney Williams, taught us a lot about volleyball skills and how to be leaders on the court,” she said, adding that Arlington has also taught her “how to be a student athlete before anything else.”
