Arlington City Council approves tax increase

The City Council approved increasing property taxes in 2010 for area homeowners.

ARLINGTON — The City Council approved increasing property taxes in 2010 for area homeowners.

The two property tax levies will increase property owners’ taxes from $0.97 per $1,000 to $1.04 per $1,000 of assessed value.

During its Nov. 16 meeting, the Council also approved a $0.41 per $1,000 emergency management services rate for 2010.

The new levies mean that an owner of a $300,000 home will pay approximately $435 in property tax during 2010.

Arlington’s new property tax rate ranks 17th among Snohomish County cities and municipalities. The city of Everett ranks No. 1, charging property owners $2.19 per $1,000 of assessed value.

The new rates represent a 1 percent increase in the tax levy rate for 2010 due to the city’s “substantial need,” according to a city memo.
