ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington has established priorities in order to enhance public safety and make efficient use of available resources.

Primary snow routes — which include hospitals, schools and hills — have been plowed and sanded, and as of Friday, Jan. 20, the city is working on clearing secondary streets and transitioning into cleaning up snow and preparing for flooding issues.

As facilities begin to thaw from the freezing temperatures, issues related to frozen pipes will also need to be addressed.

To help the city Public Works Department’s efforts, Arlington citizens should remember the following tips:

• If you have having a life safety emergency, call 911.

• Property owners are being asked to maintain all sidewalks abutting their property in a clean, non-slippery fashion, free of leaves, ice and snow.

• Whenever possible, please assist the Public Works Department by clearing catch-basins and snow-covered fire hydrants adjacent to your property.

• Snow-shoveling can be very strenuous, so work at a comfortable pace for your health.

Following severe storms, the city will only pick up tree limbs and debris from trees that block city streets.

The city does not have the resources to remove fallen tree limbs and brush from private property.
