STANWOOD — This year may be the last reunion for Arlington High School’s Class of 1950.

But that didn’t stop attendees from having a good time.

About 65 individuals, including approximately 40 students, showed up at the school’s 60th reunion on Friday, Aug. 20.

The event took place at former AHS student Gil Emory’s home in Stanwood.

“I came knowing that I may not recognize many of the people who came,” said Ellen Dodge, one of the reunion organizers. “I’ve been to all of our reunions. It was good seeing all of them again.”

Class members had a chance to catch up, eat lunch and share stories about yesteryear during the three-hour reunion.

Emory even handed out awards based on how far attendees came to get to the reunion, who had the most grandchildren and who had lost the most weight for the event.

Carol Valiant said she did not actually graduate from Arlington High School, but was invited to the reunion because she was a member of the Class of 1950.

“I came here to see all of my old friends,” Valiant said. “I was so happy to see my buddies. I moved to Aberdeen in 1967 and hadn’t been back here since. I felt so honored to be here.”

Dodge said that the group has held 10th, 20th, 25th, 40th and 50th anniversary class reunions until this year.

The 40th class reunion was a joint reunion with the Arlington High School classes of 1949 and 1951.

The event was organized by Dodge, Nancy Matthiesen, Lola Wolfe, Delores Van Winkle and Loraine Chambers.

During the event program, Chambers presented Emory a plaque that will be displayed in Arlington High School commemorating the reunion.
