Welcome home party for Ed Chrisman
Ed Chrisman has arrived home from Arizona and his family is planning a big party to celebrate his safe release from prison in Mexico. The whole community is invited from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at the Arlington Heights Community Hall at 12221 228th St. NE in Arlington Heights.
“We would like to thank the community by offering icecream and cake, coffee and punch. Thanks to Iversen’s Distubuting in Arlington for providing the icecream,” said Chrisman’s granddaughter, Tracy Short.
Bobcat seen at Arlington Airport
While walking on the Airport Trail recently, Terence Bardue saw a bobcat.
“I thought I saw a feral cat walking west up the grassy knoll from the parking area,” Bardue said he was on the north side of the airport when he saw the critter.
“I couldn’t reconcile it’s size with that of a domesticated breed. I could only guess it was about 40 – 50 pounds and about 8 – 10 inches taller than any houshold variety of cat that that I know. The animal’s tail was ‘bobbed.’ which is not uncommon in feral cats, but even at that, it looked to be five inches long. What was most striking about this animal was it’s lack of timidity. It acted as though it knew it was at the top of the food chain,” Bardue said.That night Bardue checked the books and felt that he correctly identified the critter as a fully mature bobcat.
He was concerned for neighbors with pets.
More gardening information
Another session of vegetable gardening on the corner of Second Street and Washington Avenue, directly across the street from the Arlington Library. Participants will tour the garden looking at different methods of gardening and hearing the stories about the successes of this garden now in its 8th year of growing food for the Arlington Food Bank. Then the class will move to the garden of the instructor, Bea Randall, for some hands-on compost making, a view of different watering systems and further discussion on transplanting, increasing heat devices and mulching, and new information on organic versus conventional gardening. The next session on June 13, the class will return to the community room at the Arlington Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
Public Hearing on I-728 Funds
Lakewood School District will be holding its public hearing on the proposed use of its 2009-2010 I-728 funds prior to the start of the April 29 Board Study Session. The report will begin at 6 p.m. in the Technology Training Lab at English Crossing Elementary School, 16728 16th Dr N.E., Marysville. The Board Study Session will follow at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed plan for the use of these funds.
Kitty spay/neuter sale at N.O.A.H.
The N.O.A.H. Animal Adoption & Spay/Neuter Center is having a “Buy one get one free” spay/neuter sale. Owners of cats who pay for one cat surgery can get the second cat surgery for free.
