If you’re looking for the nearest place for your family to cap your 4th of July holiday watching a dazzling public fireworks display, Arlington awaits.
Arlington hosts the only local public fireworks display, set for about 9 p.m. on July 4. The city is partnering this year with the Arlington Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce and corporate sponsors to light up the night sky over the community again.
The hour-long event will happen near the Arlington Boys and Girls Club east of the Arlington Airport. In the past, Quake Field has served as a great location to view the show; however, officials said if details can be worked out, the show could move to property south of the fields, which would provide a larger viewing area, and help protect the new artificial turf baseball diamonds at Quake. Food concessions will be available.
The event’s popularity means traffic can get heavy, so come early. The parking lot at Evans Field on the north side of 188th Street is a good backup when spaces are hard to find.
“The Fourth of July celebration is a long standing tradition in Arlington,” City Administrator Paul Ellis said. “The day’s events provide activities for the community and act as a homecoming for many who come back to visit.”
The city is committed to finding corporate sponsors to keep the event going in the future. Interested businesses can call the city at 360-403-3440 to learn more.
City hotel-motel tax grant funds for promoting tourism are being used to help fund the display. Enterprise Fireworks Inc. is again putting on the show.
