ARLINGTON – A 27-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett Feb. 18 after an action-packed car chase.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 16 year-old Seattle girl reported as a runaway in 2015, was not injured and released to Child Protective Services.
The chase started when an Arlington police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the 5900 block of Cemetery Road. The officer observed someone walking away from the fence of a business that was closed to the public, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
Thinking that he may have interrupted a burglary, the officer pulled in behind the vehicle. The vehicle then fled west at a high rate of speed. With emergency equipment activated, the officer began following the vehicle.
With speeds reaching 90 miles per house, they reached Smokey Point Boulevard then east on Highway 530.
At 211th Place NE the driver swerved in the direction of an officer who was deploying spike strips, but the officer jumped to safety. The vehicle drove over the spikes then continued onto Dike Road where the vehicle stopped. The driver attempted to flee, but was prevented by the pinning of the driver’s side door by the initial responding officer’s vehicle.
The man was charged with two felonies, eluding of a police vehicle and assault in the 1st degree.
