Arlington Police arrest suspect in attempted rape

On July 14 at approximately 11:20 p.m., Arlington Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at the Smokey Point Motor Inn, located at 17329 Smokey Point Dr. Upon their arrival, officers contacted a 35-year-old Lake Stevens woman, who reported that she had been held against her will and assaulted by a 42-year-old male suspect, after being invited back to his motel room.

ARLINGTON — On July 14 at approximately 11:20 p.m., Arlington Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at the Smokey Point Motor Inn, located at 17329 Smokey Point Dr.

Upon their arrival, officers contacted a 35-year-old Lake Stevens woman, who reported that she had been held against her will and assaulted by a 42-year-old male suspect, after being invited back to his motel room. The female victim reported that the suspect attempted to sexually assault her, but that she was able to escape after a physical altercation.

The suspect fled the area on foot and was able to summon a cab to drive him out of the area. He was apprehended by Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies in the early hours of July 15. Arlington Police interviewed the suspect and he was subsequently booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of assault in the second degree, attempted rape in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment. Arlington Police detectives executed a search warrant to recover evidence from the scene of the assault. The victim is being evaluated and treated at a local hospital.
