MARYSVILLE — Students from Arlington were well-represented during the Special Olympics Washington’s Northwest Region 2010 meet at Marysville-Pilchuck High School May 2.
The Arlington Eagles team came away with six gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals during the event. It also took home 11 fourth-place, four fifth-place and four sixth-place ribbons.
“It was cold, windy and ended up raining,” said Arlington coach Sandy Catiis. “They did their best and all improved on their scores and we all had a good time.”
Sixteen Arlington participants in the event will compete in the state meet at Ft. Lewis in June.
Nineteen local athletes total competed in the meet, which consisted of Olympic-style track and field events. They ranged in age from 9-years-old to 50.
Participants on the Arlington team were Joshua Catiis, Jim Cox, Brandon Edmonds, Mark Erickson, Mike Henry, Talon Leavitt, Adam Lefevbre, Ben Lefevbre, Ahna Marr, Jamie Leigh McClure, Christopher McCracken, Will Peseau, Xander Ryder, Simon Rynning, David Siken, Christopher Smith, Collin Smith, Charles Steele and Cori Wreggelsworth.
Age groupings for the event were juniors (age 8-15), seniors (16-21) and masters (22 and older).
Arlington competed against Marysville, Oak Harbor, Bellingham, Everett, Mukilteo, Snohomish, Mariner, North Puget Sound and two teams from Edmonds.
Volunteers for the regional meet included Debi Marr and Chris and Austin Ryder.
Along with Catiis, coaches for Arlington are Wade Smith (shot put), Christie Britton (K-5 coach) and Derey Edmonds (long jump coach).
Marysville participants included Breana Baylon, Brianna Blodgett, Cory Bosley, Joshua Caldwell, Cody Gulle, Joshua Howard, Daniel Irwin, Brock Kipperberg, Egor Kirillov, Erika O’Kelly, John Raven, Robert Repass, Kristy Richey, Ashley Rohde, Lynn Roth, Natalie Seil, Eddy Shaver, Roland Siler, Stephanie Thomas, Jerry Vanney, Zachary Weaver and Jennifer Winters.
