ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington is inviting citizens to its 27th annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The crime and drug prevention event, which takes place from 6-8 p.m., will include activities at two locations in Arlington this year — at Arlington City Hall (238 N. Olympic Ave.) and at Arlington Fire Station No. 48 (18824 Smokey Point Blvd.).

During the event, representatives from the Arlington police, fire and public works departments will hold various demonstrations and displays for the public.

McGruff the Crime Dog, as well as K-9 Baylee and her handler, Officer Davis, will also make appearances at both locations for children to check out.

The National Association of Town Watch introduced National Night Out in 1984 in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anticrime efforts.

The national program is coordinated locally by law enforcement and crime prevention agencies and organizations.

“This night is an opportunity for resident to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie,” said city of Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield. “In addition, National Night Out strengthens our neighborhood spirit, sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”

Events at both locations are free.
