ARLINGTON — The irony of having an art show at an eye clinic is not lost on Art Dujardin.

“It might turn a lot of customers around,” Dujardin joked about patients seeing his work. “They might not want good eye vision.”

Dujardin, a Marysville resident, will be showing off about 35 of his paintings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 13 at The Harman Eye Clinic in Arlington.

Dujardin will be displaying watercolor and acrylic paintings during his solo show. The subject matter in his work varies from vibrantly colored landscapes to abstract shapes, marks and designs.

Both realistic and abstract painting share similar characteristics, he said.

Dujardin said he uses geometric shapes, such as rectangles, squares and triangles to do landscape paintings. In abstract paintings, those shapes are re-arranged in a less conventional way.

“It’s all about changing spaces and it opens up a bit of freedom,” he said. “Abstract shapes don’t have to mean anything — they’re open to interpretation. They allow viewers to put themselves in it.”

His show in Arlington will feature about half abstract, half non-abstract paintings, he said. A variety of sizes will be available to customers, ranging from 24-by-28-inch works to 8-by-10-inch paintings.

All works will be for sale, he said.

“(The show) is a chance for people to meet the artist and rub elbows with the guy,” Dujardin said.
