The race for state representative Position 1 looks like it will be a hot one in the Nov. 4 general election.
The Republican, Mark Harmsworth, edged out Democrat Mike Wilson by just 69 votes in the Aug. 5 primary. That could change as about 18,000 votes have yet to be counted, although only a portion would have voted in that race. More votes will be tallied today. As of Aug. 5 at 8 p.m., 70,767 votes were counted out of 417,448 registered voters, or 17 percent.
Harmsworth picked up 7,322 votes, or 50.24 percent, to Wilson’s 7,253 votes, or 49.76 percent.
In other primary races, Dave Hayes and Nick Petrish are moving on to the general after winning in a four-person race for Legislative District 10, Position 2. Hayes received 1,709 votes, or 52 percent, and Petrish 784, or 24 percent. Hayes, a Republican, is the incumbent and Petrish a Democrat.
Incumbent County Executive Jon Lovick-D picked up 47 percent of the vote, with 32,728, while Carolyn Eslick-R received 26,969 for 39 percent in a three-person race.
A four-person, non-partisan race that still is up for grabs, at least for the second spot, is Public Utility District 1. Incumbent Dave Aldrich received 8,548 votes, for 44 percent, to Bruce King’s 5,375 votes, for 28 percent, and Matt Hartman’s 4,951 votes, or 26 percent.
For U.S. Congress, incumbent Rick Larsen-D took 54 percent of the vote, with 19,618, to Republican B.J. Guillot’s 12,112, or 33 percent.
