Visitors to Pioneer Hall now have safe, comfortable benches on which to sit, thanks to an Eagle Scout project by Caleb Hermann , sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A member of Troop 206, Hermann organized the project to replace the old benches that were unsafe and unsightly. He coordinated a neighborhood car wash to raise the money required to purchase materials. Brent and Connie McKinley donated wood and allowed Caleb and his 12 volunteers to use their facilities to construct six benches. “The new benches are well-built, stained and weather-proofed,” Hermann said. “The Stillaguamish Museum has chained them to the wall so they won’t be removed.”

An Arlington High School senior who is the son of Martel and Leila Hermann of Arlington, Caleb received the Boy Scout’s highest honor May 26.

Following graduation, he plans to go to Skagit Valley College and then serve an LDS Church mission sometime next year. It took him a year to earn the money to attend the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia.

“Scouting has really helped me to have initiative, to learn how to push myself to accomplish my goals,” Hermann said. “I have more confidence in my abilities to do things. I can think things through better.”
