Children’s book includes song, puzzle-like game

SMOKEY POINT – Melanie Maddy has always wanted to write a children's book. But she considers herself more of a singer and musician than an author. So she ended up combining the two.

SMOKEY POINT – Melanie Maddy has always wanted to write a children’s book.

But she considers herself more of a singer and musician than an author. So she ended up combining the two.

Her song, “In a Child’s Eyes,” has been turned into a children’s book. Sheet music to the song is in the book itself. The song also is available on I-Tunes.

But that is not the only thing that makes this book unique. Celia Marie Baker illustrated the book, and on certain pages there are hidden images in the artwork that children can try to find.

The story is about a boy going for a walk along a river with his grandpa, both enjoying the nature all around them. The book was inspired by neighbors of Maddy’s family cabin in Gold Bar.

Maddy graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School in 1974. Her dad was part of a popular local trio “The Maddy Brothers.” She sang with her brother

Darren, who lives in Nashville and is also a songwriter.

Maddy, who works in property management, had her book published by Crazy Heart Publishing.

Two book signings are scheduled: June 20 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Snowgoose Book in Stanwood; and at the Camano Island Marketplace from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24. For signings and booking information call 360-631-0425.
