City Web site boasts videos by end of month

ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington will soon be putting a human face onto its corner of Internet.

ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington will soon be putting a human face onto its corner of Internet.

In recent weeks, city officials such as Mayor Margaret Larson have been filming audio and video clips of different locations throughout the community, to be posted on the city’s Web site.

Vic Ericson, the city’s economic development manager, explained that the city has entered into a free partnership with CGI Communications, through which they’ll produce videos for the Web site that will spotlight Arlington’s assets to outsiders.

“This will effectively position the city for business, investments and new residents,” Ericson said. “It won’t just be pictures. You’ll be able to listen to stories that have visuals to back them up. Many other cities in Western Washington have signed on, and when we saw what they’d done for Walla Walla’s Web site, we were impressed.”

A freelance Marysville videographer is working with CGI on a script that touches upon six areas:

1. Economic development

2. Quality of life

3. Real estate and relocation

4. Recreation and things to do

5. Education

6. A welcome message from the mayor, with an overview of Arlington.

Ericson expects these videos will be online by the end of September. He added that CGI plans to contact local businesses about setting up paid links for them on the city’s Web site at ci.arlington.wa.us.
