ARLINGTON — The annual Veterans Day parade is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Nov. 11, in downtown Arlington.
The parade, organized by American Legion Post 76 of Arlington, will take to the north end of North Olympic Avenue starting at 11 a.m, with the parade line-up beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The color guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1561 will lead off the parade, followed by Post 76, the Arlington High School band, Boy Scout Troop 92, veterans from various wars and conflicts and other youth groups.
Veterans from World War II will ride in vehicles for the parade.
Scout troop 92 will also be conducting a flag retirement ceremony at 3 p.m. at Legion Park, located across the street from Legion Hall.
Following the parade will be a free roast beef dinner with all the trimmings at 1 p.m. at Legion Hall, located at 115 N. Olympic Ave.
Dinner is free for veterans and $5 to all non-veterans.
A number of Arlington schools are also hosting Veterans Day activities.
Arlington High School will be holding two assemblies at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 8:50 and 9:40 a.m.
The Air Force Junior ROTC will be posting colors, followed a performance by the junior ROTC drill team and special flag folding ceremony.
The high school Jazzmine will also perform. Veterans on hand will receive recognition.
At Eagle Creek Elementary School, there will be student presentations, music, TAPS and a moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. Nov. 10.
Kent Prairie will also have a JROTC flag presentation and recognize veterans in attendance. Guest speaker John Cerna from the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the U.S.S. Ford will be on hand.
Post Middle School will hold a Veterans Day assembly at the gymnasium at 8:15 a.m. the same day, and Presidents Elementary School will show a slideshow and music featuring veterans in the Arlington community.
The slideshow takes place at 9:30 a.m.
Trafton Elementary will host Scott Wagner from the Jim Creek Naval Station as a guest presenter at 1 p.m.
Residents are asked to check in at school offices to receive visitors’ passes.
