SMOKEY POINT — A two-alarm fire ravaged part of a shopping center early Monday, Nov. 2, leaving at least two businesses at a total loss.

Firefighters responded to a burglar alarm in the 3400 block of 172nd Street NE at approximately 3:20 a.m. to find the Smokey Point Plaza’s eastern end on fire, fire officials said.

Two businesses — Smokey Point Pawn Shop and #1 Teriyaki — were completely destroyed, said Chris Badger, Arlington Fire Department Public Information Officer.

“At least those two businesses so far, but there may be smoke and water damage to other surrounding businesses,” Badger said late Monday morning.

Big Foot Music, as well as other businesses in the shopping complex near the fire, were closed Monday.

Crews initially shut off power and gas to the building’s 13 tenants, but restored power to businesses whose space was not affected by the fire, Badger said.

No damage estimates were available as publication.

Fire crews reportedly heard what sounded like ammunition going off inside the pawn shop when the fire was at its peak.

Badger said fire crews extinguished the blaze within an hour after arriving on the scene, limiting damage to four businesses.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshall and the Arlington Police Department were currently on the scene late Monday morning.

More than 60 personnel from the Arlington and Marysville fire departments, as well as Fire District 19 and the North County Fire/EMS, responded to the fire.
