ARLINGTON — According to a spokesperson for the sponsor of Cub Troop 206, the Arrow of Light Award is the national Cub Scouts highest honor usually earned by only a few scouts.

But five Troop 206 scouts recently took home the distinction, said Mary Van Pham, a spokesperson for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Arlington and sponsors of Troop 206.

The scouts received their awards at a special ceremony June 25.

According to Pham, the scouts met numerous requirements to earn the Arrow of Light. They needed eight specific pins required for the award. They also participated in a Webelos overnight camp and day hike, visited a Boy Scout troop meeting and participated in one of that troop’s outdoor activities.

One of the service projects was working on the Centennial Trail, clearing trash and washing barricades along the trail.

“I learned a lot about nature, how to be safe and prepared and it was also fun,” said award winner Douglas Colburn.

“It was great to see my son set goals and achieve them,” added mom Roxane Colburn.
