Mark Brown, the former principal at Highland Christian School in Arlington, pleaded guilty Friday, Sept. 11, to second-degree kidnapping of a teenage female student of the school. Prosecutors dropped a third-degree rape charge as part of the plea agreement. Brown faces up to a year in jail and will be sentenced in a couple of months.
Brown had originally been charged with the rape of a child in the third degree in Snohomish County Superior Court on July 23, 2008 and had posted bond on a $100,000 bail. Brown was fired from HCS July 25, 2008.
According to the 2008 charging papers filed by Snohomish County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe, Brown allegedlly had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old Highland student June 12, 2008 after encouraging her to run away from home and promising her a place to stay at the school.
