LAKEWOOD — Travis Givler, a member of Boys Scouts of America Troop 81 and Crew 401, has earned his Eagle Rank, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Givler supervised the building of a 20-foot-by-20-foot outdoor shelter in the Jones Creek environmental learning center, to benefit both the Marysville School District and the surrounding community.

At the age of 7, Givler joined the Cub Scouts, in which he was awarded the Arrow of Light. As a member of Troop 81, he’s served as an assistant patrol leader and chaplain. He’s also been elected into the Order of the Arrow, an elite subset of Scouts whose membership is voted on by fellow Scouts.

Givler’s Scouting experience includes the Philmont Scout Ranch, which is the Boy Scouts’ premier high adventure base camp, as well as Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, Alaska in 2006 and 2007, Camp Pigott, Black Mountain and Fire Mountain.

Givler has earned 37 Merit Badges, gone on two 50-mile bike rides in the San Juan Islands and an 80-mile hike, earned his Mountain Man and Junior USA shooting awards, and has been inducted into the Polar Bear Club numerous times.

Givler is a junior at Lakewood High School who has lettered in football and wrestling, and attended diesel mechanics classes. His plans include finishing his ASE certification in diesel mechanics, attending college in Valdez, Ala. and working on the Alyeska pipeline.
