ARLINGTON – The Haller Park Splash Pad project’s colorful menagerie of river otters, ducks, salmon and cattails look ready to soak the kids, but you’ll have to wait a few more weeks while finishing touches are made.

The city brought in more than 1,800 yards of new top soil for around the splash pad and concrete walkways, and volunteers with the Arlington Rotary Club, one of the spray park’s major funders, will be laying sod.

Wolfe Landscaping of Lake Stevens has been hired for $38,263 to install a multi-zone sprinkler system that will save on staff time irrigation, while ensuring the long-term survival of the grass in the landscaped area.

Crews will install garbage cans, a couple new tables and park signage, said Sarah Lopez, community revitalization project manager.

“We also are having the splash pad deck stained with blues for an attractive splash area,” she said. “We are super excited to have it ready for the nice weather.”

Officials hope to open Memorial Day weekend, but the date could move later depending on overall progress and weather.
