Hartwell captured in Texas

TEXAS— The escaped sex-offender, Eric Eugene Hartwell, who removed his electronic monitoring device and left a house on 188th Street in Smokey Point March 20, was captured April 2 in Texas.

Convicted for the rape of a child in 1991, Hartwell was found by a special U.S. marshal task force based in Seattle that hunts high risk sex offenders. He was captured in Carrolton, Texas, a city near Dallas, said Tom Lanier, who helps runs the task force.

After completing treatment for his first offense, Hartwell attempted to sexually assault a 17-year-old female in September 1996. Even after given a term of 51 months in prison for that crime, he was released and arrested again in January 2007 for failing to register. He was released from jail again in February 2007, fled the state and was captured in California.

Hartwell was on active supervision with the Marysville Department of Corrections when he escaped again.
