EVERETT — “Holiday Mail For Heroes” will give visitors to the Everett Mall on Veterans Day an opportunity to express their appreciation to members of America’s military for their service to their country.
Participants can design and write holiday cards that the American Red Cross’ Snohomish County Chapter will make sure get safely delivered. Cards collected on Nov. 11 will be distributed during the holidays to veterans, active-duty military members and their families.
The Frontier Communications store at the Everett Mall will collect this “Holiday Mail For Heroes” on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Every card made or signed there will be delivered to a service member, a hospitalized veteran or one of their families.
Writing tools and arts and crafts supplies for making cards will be provided, but participants are welcome to donate cards as well.
“This is a powerful way to show your appreciation for our troops and veterans,” said Chuck Morrison, executive director of the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross. “Make it a special family event by bringing your children and having them make a card or two.”
This event is supported locally by Frontier Communications, which is providing the location and all the supplies to make and collect cards, and Fox Sports Radio 1380 AM, which will be broadcasting live on site from noon to 2 p.m.
For those who cannot make it on Veterans Day, but still wish to send holiday cards to the troops, you may log onto www.redcross.org/holidaymail, where you can view a video of cards being delivered in years past. After reading the guidelines, mail your cards by Dec. 9 to “Holiday Mail For Heroes” at P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.
