ARLINGTON — Investigators made sure the roof of a burned-out mobile home was stable before they entered Jan. 20, the morning after a fire in the 16400 block of Jordan Way.

A neighbor first reported the fire around 9 p.m. Jan. 19, and witnesses who called 911 said they believed two people were still inside the home.

Neighbors tried to enter the building, to rescue its occupants, but the fire had overtaken too much of the structure for them to enter safely.

Responders found two bodies after the fire was extinguished, but the Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to confirm their identities.

Detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived around midnight to assess the scene, but the Snohomish County Fire Marshall determined the structure was still unsafe to enter at that time.

Detectives returned in the morning to continue the death investigation.

Shari Ireton, director of communications for the sheriff’s office, said recovery of the bodies could take several hours, due to the unsafe conditions of the burned building.
