EVERETT — A Mount Vernon man found sitting naked in a high school girls locker room was sentenced June 24 to a month in jail and ordered to keep his clothes on in public.

Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Thomas Wynne also ordered Brett Linert to undergo sexual deviancy treatment. Linert is banned from stepping foot on any school properties.

Marysville police began investigating Linert in October after a janitor at Marysville Getchell High School reported that he found Linert sitting nude in the girls’ locker room. Linert apologized to the janitor, pulled on his clothes and walked off.

The janitor followed him outside and copied down the man’s license plate number. That led Marysville detectives to the Mount Vernon man.

Linert, 51, told detectives he messed his pants because of an intestinal problem and didn’t realize he was in the girls locker room. The janitor told police Linert was seated with his clothes in his lap when he first encountered him. It didn’t appear that he had taken a shower.

Linert said he was at the school to watch a soccer game with a friend. His story didn’t match the video footage taken at the school. He also couldn’t provide police with his friend’s phone number.

Linert pleaded guilty in March to indecent exposure and second-degree burglary. He faced up to three months in jail. Linert had no prior criminal history. He was granted a first-time offender waiver on the burglary charge. He will be under community supervision for a year on the indecent exposure charge.

“I’m sorry for what I did. I never want to do anything like this again,” Linert told the judge Tuesday.

He was taken into custody to begin serving his sentence at the county jail.
