MARYSVILLE — Soroptimist International of Marysville has inducted its Board members for the 2011-12 year, which they’re kicking off by reaching out to the community this fall.
Marysville Soroptimist President Renae James and Vice President Teresa Trivett will serve alongside Board members Laura Fletcher, Jackie Van Assche, Debbie Elgin, Elaine Hanson, Val Hickok, Marge Due and Kathie Roon for the next year, as they focus on improving the lives of women and girls in the local communities and throughout the world.
Those interested in learning more about Soroptimist International will have a chance to meet and greet its Marysville members on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Marysville Library, which will be hosting the business and professional women’s “Get Acquainted” night, complete with food and beverages.
The Marysville Soroptimists will be teaming up with the Koinonia Women’s Ministry on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. to conduct a human trafficking awareness event in the Holiday Inn Express on 88th Street.”Trafficking is not just an international problem,” James said. “It’s also a community problem. Come and listen to three local and very qualified speakers, as they share what’s going on in our community, with regards to trafficking, and what we can do to protect our children and help bring an end to this practice. Being informed on this topic is the first step.”
One month later, on Oct. 22, the Marysville Soroptimists will be staging their annual fundraising auction at the Medallion Hotel in Smokey Point at 5:30 p.m., with tickets going for $50 apiece.
“This is always a fun event, with lots of silent and live auction items, great raffles and a delicious meal,” said James, who noted that this year’s theme is “Bewitched for a Magical Evening.” “Costumes are encouraged but not required. This auction is our club’s primary fundraiser, and the funds raised go toward local scholarships and supporting local and international service projects.”
