GRANITE FALLS — A memorial service for Shaylynn Wietersen has been scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14, at Granite Falls High School.

The service will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the high school gym, said Granite Falls School District spokeswoman Kathy Grant.

The 16-year-old sophomore died Tuesday, Dec. 8, after a vehicle being driven by her 17-year-old brother, Brian, ran off the road and collided with a tree.

Authorities said the Jeep Cherokee carrying the teens collided with a second vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, after the 4Runner attempted to pass the Jeep near the 13300 block of Burn Road in unincorporated Arlington.

All residents involved in the accident were students on their way to school, Grant said.

Brian Wietersen suffered minor injuries, while the 17-year-old boy driving the 4Runner was not injured, said Rebecca Hover, public information officer for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
