ASD plans budget forum
Arlington Public School District is facing a $3 million to $5 million reduction in funding for next year and district officials are seeking community input at a forum 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., April 14, in the Arlington High School Commons. Superintendent Dr. Kristine McDuffy encourages residents of the district to review the current budget information on the Web site at www.asd.wednet.edu/current and complete a brief on-line budget survey.
“Please provide feedback through this electronic feedback form or by calling, e-mailing or attending the community forum,” McDuffy said.
“The children who walk through our doors each day deserve our very best,” McDuffy said.
Lakewood schools needs input on next year’s budget
Lakewood School District has announced a special meeting at 6 p.m., April 16, in the Lakewood High School Theater, to review the school district’s 2009-2010 budget. A budget task force has been divided into six budget work groups, for K-12 buildings, special programs, teachers and learning, athletics and activities, district leadership and services, and transportation, food services and facilities. The recommendations from these work groups will be reviewed and prioritized by the district’s budget review committee and reviewed at the public meeting. Park and pool doubles in size
The “park-n-pool” at 172nd Street and I-5 will double in size, soon, as part of phase two of the I-5 interchange project, according to Washington State Department of Transportation.
Carpoolers will soon have more space for leaving their car parked safely while catching a ride to work. The new lot features 62 parking spots, twice the capacity of the old park and pool lot.
Community Transit Route 240 will stop by there, too, and during construction they have a temporary stop outside the construction area, said Tom Pearce, of CT.
Councilman Koster launches campaign
County Councilman John Koster has announced a special event to launch his campaign, with special guest Kirby Wilbur, is set for 6 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 at the Medallion Hotel, 16710 Smokey Point Blvd. in Arlington. Hi-Q competes at finals
Hi-Q team members Tyler Gjersee, senior, juniors Ryan Jones, Amye Ellsworth, Eric McElroy and David Taft-Farren, sophomore Corinne McClure and freshman Nick Goolsbee won in semi-finals against Kamiak and Edmonds-Woodway at Everett Community College and competed in the finals at Stanwood High School on March 24. AHS went in as defending champion, but Stanwood had earned the number one spot on the basis of their high overall score this season. Neither Stanwood nor Arlington won, however, as Marysville took the trophy. Arlington trailed Marysville by four points going into the last four-point question, which was a math toss-up.
Tyler Gjersee of Arlington buzzed in first with a chance to send the contest into overtime, but unfortunately his answer was incorrect and Marysville hung on for the 4-point win.
The final score was Marysville 34, Arlington 30 and Stanwood 24.
