ARLINGTON — Post Middle School scored nearly $3,000 from Safeway and its shoppers this past fall, and the Post Parent Teacher Student Association commemorated this with Arlington Safeway employees, May 16.

Arlington Safeway Manager Rick Blewett joined Post PTSA Co-Presidents Debbie Nield and Evelyn Modahl, Vice President Angela Camilon and Secretary Sarah Richardson in celebrating Post’s May 16 announcement that the school is one of the top 250 earning groups nationally in this school year’s Safeway 10 Percent Back to Schools Program.

Post earned $1,796.85 during the six-week “eScrip” Back to Schools Program, running from September through October last year, and Safeway contributed an additional $1,000 to the Post PTSA. The eScrip program allows participating businesses such as Safeway to contribute percentages of their customers’ purchases to schools and other organizations, at no cost to the customers.

“This is our second year in the program,” said Nield, who thanked both the Arlington Safeway and its patrons for their support. “Last year, we raised $1,200 through Safeway and eScrip. Our board members went out and did a lot of the work for this physically, including ‘dumpster diving’ for receipts.”

Nield explained that the funds raised will go toward student safety, by purchasing two-way radios and airspace for Post’s “Parents on Campus” volunteers and staff members. The funds also purchased new tables and chairs for the school’s lunchroom, and went toward staff appreciation, eighth-grade recognition and classroom grants.

“Most importantly, it provides a memorable and exciting last day celebration to all our students, for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year,” said Nield, who noted that www.escrip.com lists other businesses that take part in such fundraisers for schools. “If everyone participated in this program, the Arlington School District would be booming.”
