Primary Election results taking shape

Although Primary Election results continue to come in, most of races north Snohomish County residents took action on have not changed since Aug. 17. The top two candidates in each race move on to the Nov. 2 General Election. In the race for the U.S. Senate, Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi will be facing off. As of Monday, Aug. 23, Murray had collected 643,139 votes statewide, or 46.41 percent of the vote, while Rossi saw 461,781 votes, or 33 percent. In Snohomish County, Murray, the incumbent, saw similar results, with 63,666 (46.2 percent) votes compared to Rossi's 45,809 (33.3 percent).

Although Primary Election results continue to come in, most of races north Snohomish County residents took action on have not changed since Aug. 17.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi will be facing off.

As of Monday, Aug. 23, Murray had collected 643,139 votes statewide, or 46.41 percent of the vote, while Rossi saw 461,781 votes, or 33 percent. In Snohomish County, Murray, the incumbent, saw similar results, with 63,666 (46.2 percent) votes compared to Rossi’s 45,809 (33.3 percent).

In U.S. Representative District 2, incumbent Rick Larsen, a Democrat, had collected 67,259 votes (42.1 percent). Challenger John Koster, a Republican, received 67,133 votes among state voters.

Updated results show that Koster had a small lead on Larsen in Snohomish County. Koster has garnered 28,840 votes compared to Larsen’s 26,164 in the county.

Both candidates are from Arlington.

With the exception of the 38th District state senator, which is too close to call, the following candidates should be moving on to the General Election:

Norma Smith, Republican — District: 23,877 votes (100 percent), Snohomish County: 5,995 votes (95.58 percent)

State Representative Position 2:

Barbara Bailey, Republican — District: 19,964 votes (60.67 percent), Snohomish County: 4,976 votes (63.07 percent)

Tom Riggs, Democrat — District: 14,018 votes (39.33 percent), Snohomish County: 2,883 votes (36.54 percent)

38th Legislative District:

State Senator:

Nick Harper, Democrat — 6,952 votes (35.05 percent)

Jean Berkey, Democrat — 6,392 votes (32.22 percent)

Rod Rieger, conservative — 6,411 votes (32.32 percent)

State Representative Position 1:

Hugh Fleet, Republican — 9,101 (45.7 percent)

John McCoy, Democrat — 10,735 (53.91 percent)

State Representative Position 2:

Iris Lilly, Republican — 8,533 (43.23 percent)

Mike Sells, Democrat — 11,120 (56.36 percent)

39th Legislative District:

State Representative Position 1:

Eleanor Walters, Democrat — District: 9,657 votes (37.53 percent), Snohomish County: 7,977 votes (37.12 percent)

Dan Kristiansen, Republican — District: 16,074 votes (62.47 percent), Snohomish County: 13,446 votes (62.57 percent)

State Representative Position 2:

Kirk Pearson, Republican — District: 19,798 votes (100 percent), Snohomish County: 16,570 votes (96.65 percent)

44th Legislative District:

Steve Hobbs, Democrat — 10,620 votes (36.2 percent)

Dave Schmidt, Republican — 10,617 votes (36.18 percent)
