ARLINGTON — A snowy day did not deter the Rotary Club of Arlington, as they delivered 55 baskets of food to homes in the greater Arlington area Dec. 18.

Knowing that the need for food would be even greater than usual this year, the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Arlington offered to match whatever amount that the club members donated for their annual food basket project.

“The project was also supplemented by the $3,000 raised by the Bronn Journey harp concert at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center before Thanksgiving, which also brought in 500 pounds of food for the food bank,” said Ron Love, coordinator of the concert.

The Rotarians delivered baskets to families named by the Arlington Food Bank, and cash donations were given to the food bank. Club members and their families met at Safeway in Arlington to purchase the food, then transported it to Soccer First where they assembled the baskets for delivery.

“Due to the snow there were many problems involved with the delivery,” said the project coordinator, Bill Kmet.

“Several members had to be towed out of ditches and three baskets were delivered later, on Dec. 19 and 20,” Kmet added.
