ARLINGTON — One of the more prolific instrumental harpists will be performing with his wife in an effort to collect canned food for a local Rotary club.

Sultan-based Bronn and Katherine Journey are bringing their musical styles to the Byrnes Performing Arts Center Nov. 19 as part of a Rotary Club of Arlington concert to support local food banks.

Last year, the performance raised 500 pounds of food, said Ron Love, Rotary member and coordinator of the event.

“It was one of those evenings people walked away from saying, ‘This is fantastic,’” Love said.

Approximately 500 people attended the Thanksgiving concert last year, said Love, adding that Rotary members are hoping to raise 1,000 pounds of food this year.

Love said the Journeys are not only musically talented — the duo performs a variety of different styles of harp music, including classical, holiday and even music from the Beatles.

“He’s funny, entertaining and his wife is a fantastic singer,” Love said. “It’s a very fun experience. He is stunningly good at what he does and you’re going to be shocked with what kinds of music he’ll play.”

Proceeds from the concert go to area organizations and charities, including the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, Kids Kloset, the Arlington Senior Center and Cocoon House.

The concert takes place at 7 p.m., and tickets are available online at www.byrnesperformingarts.org. Tickets are $17.

Residents are also asked to bring a can of food to donate at the door the night of the concert.
