ARLINGTON Arlington Cub Scouts of America Pack 92 is hoping to surpass its previous years holiday collections for local families in need.
Greg Vaughn, cub master of Pack 92, explained that the packs annual donation drive for the Arlington Food Bank has already started and will continue until Dec. 20, with a special incentive to inspire the scouts.
Two years ago, the pack challenged its scouts to raise more than 900 pounds of food, Vaughn said. When they did, the cub master shaved his head. This is my first year as cub master, and if my scouts raise more than 1,500 pounds of food, Ill shave my head, along with my son, whos a cub, and my sister, whos one of my assistants, Jan. 24. The girls of the West Avenue barber shop will be assisting us.
The scouts got a head start at the Arlington Safeway Dec. 2, where they collected food from noon to 4 p.m. Vaughn recommended canned goods and non-perishables, and emphasized the importance of such campaigns, during the holidays and all year round.
People need help all over, Vaughn said. Its easy to get in a bad spot. Teaching kids to give back is part of the Cub Scout spirit. You really wind up touching these families lives.
