ARLINGTON The annual Silvana Fair only has one fundraiser each year, to defray the costs of preserving the event, and the fundraiser for the 61st annual fair will take place March 8 at 6 p.m. in Silvanas Viking Hall.
The Silvana Fair Board met Jan. 16 at Strotzs Country Feed to begin organizing the fundraiser, in part by tasking each of its volunteer members with seeking donations from local merchants and their neighbors.
These donations are auctioned off in March, said Roy Strotz. The proceeds pay for the ribbons, trophies and premiums earned by our youth at the fair, held in Silvana the last Saturday in July.
Roy Strotz once gain agreed to chair the fundraiser, while Darlene Strotz and Rhonda Knudson will head up its silent auction. Roy reported that Al Eastman and George Magnochi would return as auctioneers.
According to Darlene, those who have spent at least $300 in previous fundraisers would automatically receive notifications. Roy noted that they would still be giving away a trip to Reno, Nev., but added that last years winners had used the money raised for the Reno trip, roughly $375, to travel elsewhere.
Receipts of donations may be listed as tax deductions or advertising expenses.
In the meantime, the fair has already benefitted from the generosity of the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, which donated $3,500 for roofing and siding.
