The Magic of Dance
The North Cascades Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Lylburn Layer, will present “The Magic of the Dance” at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.
The program honors the many styles of dance and its music, from symphonies and operas to stage plays and jazz bands. The music on this program represents many styles of music from around the world and through the ages: Russia, 18th and 19th century America, gypsy dances, Slavonic folk dances, American ballet, swing music and the popular musical, “Westside Story.”
A special feature of the program is a new composition by an Arlington High School junior, Eric McElroy called “Portly Mr. Pottle.”
The concert is presented by the Arlington Lions Club. Tickets can be purchased from any Lions Club members or at the door, for $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. For information or reservations call 360-435-9593.
Breakfast with Santa
Arlington Heights Improvement Club offers Breakfast with Santa from 8 – 11 a.m. Dec. 6, at 12221 228th St., next to the fire station in the Heights.
Pancake breakfast and photos with Santa are $5 for kids, $7 for adults and $25 for families of five and more.
Jingle Bell Benefit
The third annual Jingle Bell Benefit for the Cindy Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund is set or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marysville Awards and Gifts, at 1826 Fourth St., in downtown Marysville. Twenty five percent of all sales will go to the benefit.
OBT’s Nutcracker

Grandview Holiday Fair
The Grandview Community Center is hosting its annual Holiday Fair arts and crafts event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 29.
Vendors will be selling many handmade items such as fleece wear, stained-glass items, candles, soaps, jewelry, ornaments and baked goods.
Live music will be provided throughout the day along with the chance to visit with Santa and capture the moment with photographs from noon to 2 p.m.

Northern Sound Choir offers three concerts
The 27 girls ages 12-19 of the Northern Sound Girls’ Advanced Choir will perform three concerts in the area this season, offering holiday selections from around the world.
• Dec. 4 at the Smokey Point Community Church, 17721 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington
• Dec. 6 at Merrysville for the Holidays, 5:30 p.m. in Comford Park, after the lighting of the water tower.
• Dec. 17 at the Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach Camp at 6:45 and 8:45 p.m. in Joyland Concert Hall.
“The young ladies have been preparing since September for these performances,” said the director, Stuart Hunt. “And they are now beginning preparation for a three-day concert tour of Vancouver B.C. performing in stadiums, churches, libraries and schools throughout greater Vancouver.

Wreathes for sale
Quilceda Community Services, a non-profit agency serving adults with developmental disabilities since 1976, is selling handcrafted fresh mixed evergreen wreaths to help fund its programs.
Made of noble and Douglas firs, cedars, ornamental evergreens, various hollies, junipers and rosehips, each wreath is a unique creation. they cost $25 to $35 and must be reserved in advance at 360-653-2324.

Lights of Christmas opens Dec. 4
More than a million Christmas lights will decorate the 300-acre Warm Beach Conference Center with lots of fun events on weekends through December.
Along with the dazzling light displays, there’s also the smell of fresh hot donuts, the holiday sounds of Victorian carolers and singing groups from around Puget Sound.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. each night Dec. 4-7, 11-14, 17-23 and 26-28. Dinner theater is offered Dec. 4-6, 11-13, 18-20 and 22-23.
The dinner theater features a six-course meal and live theater in the Baylight Room, while every Sunday in December features a special dessert matinee finished in time to to enjoy the evening of Lights of Christmas.
Overnight getaways feature comfortable lodgings with a hot breakfast and plenty of time to enjoy all the different events.

Holiday Harmony Christmas
Harmony Northwest Chorus presents a holiday concert featuring the chorus, a group of 25 women that sing four-part, barbershop style, a cappella music and special guests including several a cappella quartets and a variety of soloists. Chorus singers will also lead a Christmas carol sing-a-long and seasonal door prizes and raffle items will be available, from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Community Center address, 1401 Cleveland in Mount Vernon.
Selections will include favorite traditional carols and fun, upbeat holiday tunes.
General admission is $5 at the door with children 10 and under free.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Community choir presents Messiah
For the first time in the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, Lyle Forde directs the community choir’s performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. The choir director at Arlington High School, Forde presents this opportunity every other year. The community singers will be joined by AHS choral students.
“Participation is open to all,” Forde said. “This is truly a community choir.”
He said that singing the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ is one of the most thrilling songs to sing.
