ARLINGTON — The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association in Arlington was recently honored with an award.

On Jan. 30, the League of Snohomish County Heritage Organizations presented the association with its Malstrom Award, which recognizes the year’s most outstanding heritage or history related project.

This year’s award went to the association with Larry and Helen Starr for publishing “The Story of a Great Forest, 1888-1951” — Will Verd’s 1954 personal account of the logging industry in the Puget Sound area, including the Stillaguamish Valley.

Pat Doran from the Skagit County Historical Museum served as judge for the award, which was named after charter member Helmer Malstrom and has been handed out since 1983.

Three of the ten applicants were honored during the League’s annual banquet.

Special recognition awards were also given to the Everett Public Library Northwest Room Podcast team and Charles LeWarne, author of “The Love Isreal Family.”
