Waste Management Northwest’s residential and commercial customers in Arlington and Marysville will continue to see their services affected in the wake of the strike by Teamsters Local 117 that started on Wednesday, July 25.

Due to the work stoppage, Waste Management Northwest will not be able to provide those customers’ regularly scheduled services on Friday, July 27, nor can it forecast when those services might resume.

Waste Management Northwest has promised to collect twice the regular amount of its residential customers’ missed services on their next regular service days at no additional charge.

While Waste Management Northwest has likewise pledged to pick up extra garbage, recycling, and yard and food waste from its commercial customers on their next scheduled service days at no additional charge, if the work stoppage goes beyond a few days, accounts affecting public health and the environment — such as hospitals, day care centers and nursing homes  — will made its first priority.

Not only have Waste Management Northwest’s recycling and yard waste collection workers elected to go on strike, but its garbage drivers are honoring the picket lines and not collecting garbage either, which is why Waste Management Northwest is not providing any collection services to any of its customers until further notice.

Waste Management Northwest is implementing its contingency plans, but has adopted collection schedules similar to those that it follows during inclement weather disruptions in the meantime.

This issue is not affecting operations at Waste Management Northwest’s Snohomish County disposal facilities. Those who need to dispose of their waste may take it to the North County Transfer Station in Arlington, located at 19600 63rd Ave. NE. Its hours of operation run Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
