ARLINGTON — An area middle school recently raised more than $2,000 for the Arlington Community Food Bank.

Post Middle School recently donated a check for $2,093.78, as well as 1,950 pounds of food and other items in December.

Post’s eighth-grade leadership class organized the all-school food drive, which lasted six school days.

The school’s financial secretary, Tammy Allen-Greeves, spent an average of three hours per day counting the pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters brought in by students, according to a school release.

As an added incentive, a number of staff members also participated, with many teachers matching the items and money their classes donated.

Cody Decker’s sixth-grade class was the top collecting class at Post, according to the release.

“Post Middle School would also like to thank all the volunteers at the Arlington (Community) Food Bank for all their hard work,” the statement reads. “The (food bank) runs purely on volunteers, so without their generosity Arlington would not have a place for families in our community to go for help.”
