TULALIP — The Tulalip Resort hosted the East Sound Navy Ball Oct. 16, which attracted more than 450 attendees.

Vice Adm. Michael Vitale, commander of Naval Installations Command, served as the event’s guest-speaker, as part of his visit to all the naval bases in the Pacific Northwest region.

“This ‘home base’ is what makes our Navy so appealing,” said Vitale, who is responsible for all Navy installations and activities worldwide. “We take care of our own — those who have answered the call to serve — and ensure they are ready to fight or support.”

Capt. Thomas Mascolo, commanding officer of Naval Station Everett, welcomed attendees to the ball, and wished the U.S. Navy a happy 234th birthday.

“Tonight we honor the proud legacy of all those who have selflessly endured and personally sacrificed,” Mascolo said Oct. 16. “As we celebrate, consider how 234 years of excellence, honor and service to the world has shaped us into the global force we are today. Our strength, and the keys to our success, are the service members who execute the mission. Together, our diverse workforce truly represents our democracy and a stronger, more relevant fleet.”

Tulalip Resort Casino President and COO Ken Kettler described the event as well-received, well-attended and making for a busy Friday night. He noted that the Tulalip Resort had already hosted last year’s Marine Corps Anniversary Dinner and Navy Christmas Ball.

“The military in general, and Naval Station Everett in particular, are an important part of our business,” Kettler said. “We love hosting them, as our neighbors in the community, and we look forward to serving them in the future.”

Frank Graham of Roy Robinson Chevrolet, one of the event sponsors, was blown away by the experience of attending the ball, due to both the military ceremonies of the event and the service provided by the Tulalip Resort.

“There were tears in my eyes,” Graham said. “We were all very moved and honored.”
