ARLINGTON — A recovering economy did not recently stop organizers from raising about $25,000 for children’s school clothes.

Volunteer-operated Kids’ Kloset in downtown Arlington held its fifth annual “Taste of Washington” fundraiser and auction at John and Kimberly Meno’s home Aug. 29.

Items for the auction were donated by more than 50 merchants and residents, while food and beverages were supplied by Albertsons of north Marysville, Captain Black’s Seafood of Stanwood, and Garden Treasures Organic Farm, Haggen Food & Pharmacy, Safeway, San Juan Salsa and Silvana Meats of Arlington.

“It was a very successful night,” Kimberly Meno said. “It was our largest attendance ever. It’s always our pleasure to host this event.”

Approximately 130 residents attended the fundraiser.

Kids’ Kloset is a 100 percent volunteer operated organization that serves students in preschool through grade 12.

Hundreds of children have made use of the organization since its opening in 2005.

Kids’ Kloset is located on 135 S. French St., and is open from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It is also open the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.
