ARLINGTON — Work ethics, creativity, enthusiasm, persistence and spunkiness were among the traits of Weston High School graduating seniors who were honored by staff members Alison Douglas and Jennifer Marsh at the WHS graduation ceremony, Wednesday, June 10.

Including two very young grads (babies Hunter Winters and Daimeon Peters), Weston sent 31 graduates into the world this year. The small graduating class enjoyed the comforts of Byrnes Performing Arts Center, sitting on the stage until they received their diplomas, and then moving to the seats to watch a slideshow of their life histories.

Student speakers John Binder, salutatorian, and Brandon Upthegrove, valedictorian, offered thanks to their teachers and families, and words of wisdom to their fellow graduates.

Binder thanked his grandparents and one teacher in particular, Persis Gayle.

“She kept me interested and motivated,” Binder said. “She even kept me in school by picking me up at home sometimes.”

Upthegrove, who was the ASB president, said he was honored to be the school’s valedictorian, and he shared some lessons learned at Weston.

“Don’t procrastinate,” he said, naming the biggest lesson he learned.

“Remember,” he said, “we control where we eat and where we buy gas.”

Upthegrove told his fellow graduates, “When I see the stars in the clear night sky, I will think of you guys.”

Weston graduates are Jammi Anderson, John Binder, Kirsten Brinkman, Taylor Bryant, Sierra Engle, Raché Forde, Cesar Garcia, Raul Garcia, Kalie Grinage, Julia Husby, Garrett Jensen, Shaye Lucier, Samantha Martinez, Kelsey Nielsen, Desiray Ozuna, Kenny Soria, Tyler Spelman, Brian Upthegrove, Shelly Upthegrove, Lacey Walker, Kaylee Westom, Melissa Worsley and Caitlin Zenner.
