James J. Kilmer, age 84, of Ennis, Montana, formerly of Arlington, Wa, passed away October 29, 2010 at his home is Ennis after a 2-year battle with cancer. James was born July 8,1926 the oldest of 10 children, in Canton, New York to DeAling and Louvern (Robinson) Kilmer, raised in New Hampshire and attended Catholic schools. He entered into the Navy in 1943 and served during World War 11 Korea and Vietnam. He later attended college at Columbia.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist spending many tireless hours with The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed sports. James was a world class archer who competed in various tournaments including South Africa and Australia.
He met and married the love of his life Sharon Davies June 8, 1984 in Arlington, Wa. James was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Member of Arlington Kwanis.
He is preceded in death by sons James J. Kilmer and Keith A. Kilmer, as well as brothers Michael Kilmer, Keith Kilmer and Leo Kilmer, sisters, Virginia Coffee, Carman Dumas.
Surviving are his wife Sharon, daughter Toni Kilmer, Manitowoc Wi. daughter Sonnie Pfeiffer (Ted) Arlington, Joyce Kilmer (Stephen) Olympia, son Dan Kilmer (Patty) Olympia, daughter Amy Bishop (Mike) Arlington, daughter Patricia Kilmer, Olympia. Step children Deborah and Jonathan, Seattle. 13 grand children and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother Larry, sisters Frances, Naomi and Joyce, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday Nov. 13, 2010 at 2:00pm at Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Ennis, Mt. with Rev. Vern Grotzke officiating.
Internment with full Military honors followed in Madison Valley Cemetery in Ennis, Mt.
Memorials are preferred to The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or the Madison Valley Medical Center.
