GUEST OPINION | Thanks for supporting Arlington High School’s boys basketball

On behalf of the Arlington Eagles Boys Basketball Program, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the support shown for our boys this season.

On behalf of the Arlington Eagles Boys Basketball Program, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the support shown for our boys this season.

I am honored and humbled to coach in this community and cannot tell you how much your handshakes, hugs, texts, cheers, and faces at our games mean to my staff, the boys, and myself. If one were to add up the number of years my staff and I have lived and/or worked in this community it would add up to more than 100 years, and in that time, this measures at the top of our lists as far as level of pride, appreciation and excitement are concerned.

To thank everyone adequately is a futile task to say the least, but we felt that we must at least attempt to let you know your support did not go unnoticed. We want to say thank you to our custodial staff for keeping our facilities some of the best in the state. Thanks to our administrative team and Tom Roys for helping things run smoothly. Also, we appreciate our local sponsors, our announcer, clock operators, the Big A Booster Club, Facebook nation, Laura Bailey, Denise Schwanns, Dan Rauch, director John Grabowski and the greatest high school pep band in the state, Coach Dalgaard and her incredible cheerleaders, our awesome teaching staff, Arlington Boys & Girls Club, Greg Dailer and his football program for standing behind us. We also need to thank Travis Sherer at The Arlington Times and Mike Cane at The Everett Herald for their excellent coverage of our program.

Additionally, we need to say a special thanks to Rosemary Struiksma for her tireless efforts for our boys, Darren Carlson, Bud Brummel, Eric Tregoning, and all of the other AAU, middle school, and youth coaches for teaching our boys the fundamentals of the game.

Finally, thanks to all of the future players who come to our games and camps in their “A” gear, the former players for a pat on the back before a game, and our student body for being loud, proud, and positive. I feel that our fans and program traveled and represented Arlington in a manner that was as good, if not better than the best programs in the state. I cannot tell you how thankful we are for your support.

Personally, I want to say thanks to my staff, managers, statisticians, players, and all of their families for putting up with me, our crazy schedules, and hours of dedication required to be competitive in a challenging, yet such a rewarding activity.

On a closing note, I know we all feel that the “State” experience came and went way too quickly, but as so many wise coaches have advised me: “Enjoy the journey.” This is something I feel we definitely did this season. Please come back and support us again next year as we hope to build on the successes of this special season. We will do our best not to disappoint.
