Now that Anna Nicole Smith has been laid to rest, the media can return to its second most popular subject, global warming.
I use up a lot of notebooks. Being cursed with a memory that never was what it used to be, I have to keep a 5×8 spiral notebook close at hand. And dog-eared little pocket notebooks and pens are stuffed in my gym-bag, golf bag, car and wherever.
Surprised and outraged is how Gov. Christine Gregoire described her reaction to learning that scores of felons, accused of violating their parole, had been recently released from King County jails. Surprised and outraged could also be used to describe the reaction of many local residents upon their learning of the proposed deal between Gov. Gregoire and Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon to reopen the mothballed Indian Ridge Correctional Facility to house low-risk inmates there.

When Congress passed No Child Left Behind in 2002, few could have envisioned the unintended consequences that the act would create in school districts across the nation. Now, six years later, Congress is positioned to re-authorize NCLB. Despite some of the Acts unexpected problems (and unfunded mandates), reauthorization is the right step, since NCLB has increased accountability and spurred many districts to refocus on strategic ways to improve academic performance and achievement. During the reauthorization process, however, Congress must take a closer look at NCLB and implement the absolutely necessary improvements that would make the legislation more effective and equitable, for all of Americas school children.
Its been several years since Ive brought a new animal into the house but Ive got one now. Shes a mostly Springer Spaniel named Daisy.
Brining a University of Washington branch campus to the North Sound area, and Marysville in particular, has suffered a couple of setbacks recently but, fortunately, local officials, business leaders and community members have vowed to continue their efforts to bring a branch campus to north Snohomish County.
