ARLINGTON — Ironically enough, for as rare as a 30-point run is in high school basketball, nobody seemed to know it happened.

“I didn’t know it was 30 to zero,” said Arlington coach Nick Brown after his boys defeated Snohomish 76-34, Dec. 17. “But I did know it was up there.”

A feat so rare that most programs go decades without it happening took place as everything seems to be falling into place for Arlington (5-1 overall, 3-0 Wesco North).

Coming off a win over Lake Stevens just a few days earlier, the Eagles are indeed firing on all cylinders.

But out of 30 and zero, which number is more important to the Eagles?

“It really showed just how well our defense played,” said senior point guard Zach Cooper. “We really played together defensively tonight.”

Arlington was ahead 18-8 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter when it scored 30 consecutive points on a run that lasted almost eight minutes, and saw three different players score six or more.

While a high shooting percentage and creating turnovers had to happen to keep the run alive, Arlington also was able to outrebound the larger Panthers, starting with forward Bo Brummel, who finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

“It was just being quicker and stronger,” said Brummel, a junior.

From that point on, the Eagles continued to outplay the Panthers, and owned a 52-13 lead at halftime.

The Eagles were able to influence the game in just about every way they wanted, including hitting eight 3-pointers and converting another four 3-point plays.

“A lot of things had to go right for this to happen and it really shows just how far we’ve come,” said Brown. “We’ve been beaten up by Snohomish pretty bad in past years and some of these guys had to go through that.”

The Eagles had four players score eight points or more with Cooper’s 20 leading the way while Griffin Ginnis and Eric Carlson had 10 and Terry Dawn added eight.
