ARLINGTON — Arlington volleyball held brief leads in their first two games against Lynnwood, but the Royals outmaneuvered the Eagles, posting larger and larger margins of victory as Lynnwood defeated the Arlington girls in three games.

Arlington fell in the Sept. 15 non-conference meeting 20-25, 16-25, 14-25.

Game one proved the most competitive on Arlington’s part. Junior setter Melissa Webb served an ace for a 2-1 lead and senior hitter Karissa Scarth contributed a couple of kills and an ace. But after giving up four points in a row to trail 12-6, Arlington steadily remained about three to five points behind throughout the rest of the game, a deficit they couldn’t quite erase.

Game two remained close longer as Arlington went on a 3-0 run to lead 9-6 starting with a kill by sophomore hitter Cassie Van Loo. But Lynnwood battled back, answering with four consecutive points of their own. After retying at 15-15, Lynnwood went up for good, outscoring Arlington on a 10-1 run to the game victory.

That run carried into game three, when Lynnwood scored the first five points before giving up one to Arlington on a serving error. Trailing 21-6, Arlington began stringing points together, starting with a kill by senior Amanda Bottini and some blocks by junior Kenzie Jorgenson, but it wasn’t enough for the girls to hold off the Royals, who completed the sweep 25-14.

Bottini, Jorgenson and Scarth each had four kills. Jorgenson added five blocks and Bottini had 10 digs. Libero Kirstin Wright had eight digs.
